NONG smitinand Flowers
Growing up in Thailand a country so abundant in natural beauty, I have always felt a deep connection with flowers and the joy they bring. As a child I was surrounded by nature and exposed to its marvels combined with a knowledge and an understanding of it. My dad worked in forestry which meant I often spent time in stunning national parks and my great grandfather Tem Smitinand was a botanist who built his reputation as an expert in Thai orchids, with many of his works published in books and journals. Both of these figures in my life imparted great wisdom upon me with regards to nature and flowers in particular.
This backdrop to my life has influenced the way I view and appreciate flowers, something I try to demonstrate through the aesthetics of my work. I would summarise my style as one that is in touch with nature. Gentle and subtle. Working in harmony with the flowers allows me to be adaptable to the specifics of any occasion.
